What Is A Cane Corso?

The Cane Corso ("KAH-neh COR-soh") dog is an ancient Italian molosser and direct descendant of the Canis Pugnax. Its name derives from the Latin "cohors" that means guardian, protector. It has an athletic build and a solid, compact body with free-flowing movement. The combination of its stable character, the absolute devotion to its master and its adaptability to the environment are the reasons of the breed's popularity and success. Historically, the dog was used to guard property and cattle, to hunt large game and the protection of the family. It is a gentle, sociable dog and easily trained to perform the duties for which it has been bred. It is also known as the Cane Corso Italiano, Cane Corso Mastiff, Cane di Macellaio, Italian Mastiff, Sicilian Branchiero. The Cane Corso breed has worldwide FCI recognition and has been recognized by the AKC in the USA since July 1, 2010.

new member considering a cane corso

Hello all! New around here. Just signed up to ask a few questions. I am considering adding a cane corso to my family. I'm a 29 year old male. I currently live alone in a 1500 sq ft house, with a half acre fenced yard. I grew up with rottweilers, but right now my only pet is a 2 year old male doberman I've had since 10 weeks. He's about 100lb's, neutered, and not very dominant for the breed. Has been well socialized and I can and do take him everywhere. The plan has always been to get another…See More

Hello to all forum members!I'm writing here for purposes of discussion regarding "right amount" of information Breeders provide in any form (homepage, social media, etc).Under "right amount" I mean, that I can not be comfortable as a future buyer with anything but EVERYTHING (know health issues of breeder line, pennhip scores, full pedigree, ability to meet and spend time with both Sire and Dam, etc) there is to know which will ultimately lead to a decision lasting 10 years or so. Decision…See More
